Mini-Z

These cars have a very low ground clearance (5mm) so you need a flat surface to run them on. I've been running indoors on my home made track that gets assembled in the living room. Here is a picture of one configuration. Notice the start/finish line gantry with the Formula 1 still lights (which are too small to see). This is part of the timing system.

The track walls are made of 75mmx45mm lengths of timber, wrapped in foam to make sure I don't do too much damage to the car. They can hit the walls pretty hard. I used expansion gap foam from the local hardware store, then wrapped it in a layer of very thick packing tape. The lengths are mostly 1.5 meter, with some smaller 1, 0.75 and 0.5 meter lengths.

The track is just laid on the carpet. I tried a piece of vinyl flooring, but it was too slippery. I don't understand why, because my kitchen floor is vinyl, and that's really sticky. ;)
