I'm using the track planning software, 3rd Planit. It allows you to build your track layout, then test it by running trains around it. It can be very addictive.
As of yet, I haven't decided on a layout. I want to start small with a coffee table layout, but I also want it full of features...
- Bridges
- Tunnels
- Large rail yard
- A long twisting loop to send trains off on and forget about them
- Two or more passenger stations to run a passenger service
- An underground station/subway. On the coffee table layout, this could appear on a glass side of the table - thanks to Adrian for that idea.
- A turntable
- All DCC controlled
- Full signaling
- Full lighting
- A dockyard scene with a moored container ship being unloading with a DCC electric crane.
I want functionality, not a prototypical line.
I think the reason I don't commit to anything is that I'm trying to fit too much into the one project. Nah! Maybe I just need a larger coffee table!
I have, however, started a simple test layout to test the other train electronics projects and try my modelling techniques.
